Written Deposit Guarantees
In Bolton and Rochdale, we provide written deposit guarantees (also known as a bond) that takes the place of a cash deposit, for those experiencing homelessness and who would otherwise be unable to secure private rented accommodation in the area.
In any one year, we are supporting over 650 households in accommodation, by providing written deposit guarantees.
This is our volunteer project that recruits and trains volunteers to support our service users in finding and setting up new tenancies and offering initial ad hoc support. We have helped a large number of our volunteers gain the skills and experience needed to gain employment in Bolton and Rochdale.
We currently have 9 volunteers. If you are interested in doing reception, admin, mentoring or befriending, please contact us to find out more.
As a result of the success we’ve had with our Letting Out scheme, we are delighted to be one of nine projects chosen by Crisis to become National Private Renting Champions. We are available to share our expertise and offer advice to other agencies across the country, around setting up and running a social letting agency for sharers.
Spare a room
This is our pilot lodging scheme in Rochdale. Working in partnership with Petrus, we aim to deliver lodgings support for landlords and lodgers. Spare a room aims to help people who are affected with rising living costs and have a spare room, as well as those that are looking to help people in their community. It also works with those who are seeking an affordable room to rent.
Making the Link
In the Rochdale Borough, we provide a support service for those living in the Private Rented Sector to help people maintain their tenancy. We provide advice and support to enable people to improve their general and economic well-being and live independently.
In the last 12 months, we provided support to 137 people.
This is our Social Letting Agency that manages properties on behalf of private landlords for a small charge in Bolton, Bury, Rochdale and Stockport. Through this project we have developed a sharing scheme for under 35 year olds, to make private rented accommodation affordable for this age group. The scheme also includes families and single people over 35 who are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Since the scheme started in 2011, we have housed 144 people and 34% of our clients have found employment whilst in a Letting Out property.
We are working with Petrus to deliver a No Second Night Out project in Rochdale, to reduce numbers of people sleeping on the streets and reducing those arriving on the streets. We are doing this by providing access to starter tenancies for people to move in to at short notice.
We have recently been successful with a couple of funding applications which will greatly help our service users settle into their new homes and maintain their tenancies. The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund has made an award to us to purchase essential small household items for service users when they get their first home after a period of homelessness. Also, the Percy Bilton charity has provided funding for us to furnish ten properties for sharers using our Letting Out scheme. We are most grateful for any further donations, to enable us to continue helping people and families who are homeless or facing homelessness to secure a roof over their heads and receive advice and support to help them maintain their tenancies. Any amount will make a difference to someone’s life. Please check out our online fundraising page
